Recommend at the start to only spend coins on upgrades from the cheapest up. I also recommend doing whatever dungeon you can afford at the time. To unlock new areas, you have to defeat enough Pokemon on the route before it. Once you unlock the first gym, challenge it immediately. For the rest of the gyms, I recommend having at least six Pokemon at their current maximum. For the rest, I recommend advancing them in the order of their numbers. Locked routed appear red, Incomplete routes have a dark orange appearance. Complete Routes have a yellow appearance. Shards are Based off the Pokemon you catch. For each type of Pokemon you catch, You get one of that types shard. For the moment the shard system is bad because the cheapest item your can purchase with shards costs 250 shards.
